If your business is located in the U.S., your Soundsuit subscription includes the required public-performance licensing for standard background music played through Soundsuit. In this standard use case, you do not need to pay additional music licensing fees.
Are there exceptions?
Yes. Certain uses of music may require additional public-performance licenses directly from the relevant U.S. Performing Rights Organizations (PROs).
This may apply if your business:
- uses music as part of an instructed or paid activity, such as a fitness, spinning, yoga or dance class;
- plays music from another source outside Soundsuit, such as a DJ, karaoke or live performance; or
- uses music in connection with an event or activity for which an admission or participation fee is charged.
For example, if music is an integral part of a fitness class or participants pay specifically to attend the class, additional PRO licensing may be required.
In short: For standard background music played through Soundsuit, the necessary U.S. public-performance licensing is included in your subscription. For instructed classes, paid activities, live music, DJs or other special uses, additional licensing may be required.
